The German brand has just presented its «new baby for 2013», the Mercedes CLA.
The arrival of the CLS cousin and brother of the A-Class was no longer new to anyone, however, we were all looking forward to the Detroit Motor Show to get to know the final version of this elegant coupé saloon. And you know what? We are capable of killing someone to get our hands on this «toy»…
As you have already seen here, the new Mercedes CLA is based on the same platform as the Mercedes A-Class and was inspired by the lines of the Mercedes CLS – if you like the CLS but think it is too big, then this is the ideal car for you. . The CLA compared to the CLS is 310mm shorter (4630mm), 104mm shorter (1777mm) and 21mm shorter (1437mm).
The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé, seems to us to have a rival to match here… It is difficult for us to choose the best, as they are both extremely delicious and daring.
For the engines of this coupé saloon, we can wait for a CLA 180 which will come with a 1.6 engine – developed in conjunction with Renault – to deliver 122 hp and 200 Nm of torque. Also in the CLA 180 we will be able to count on the most environmentally friendly version, called Blue Efficiency , capable of consumption of 5.0 l/100 km, emissions of 118 g/km of CO2.
Right after the CLA 180 is the CLA 200 with 156 hp and the top of the range of this model will be the CLA 250 which will have a two-liter engine with 211 hp and a torque of 350 Nm – such numbers will allow a race from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds, and all this under the controls of an automatic dual-clutch transmission. 7G-DCT.
As for Diesel offers, it is to be expected a CLA 200 CDI with 136 hp and one CLA 220 CDI , which will be the more efficient Diesel option of the two. This 2.2 engine will come with 170 hp and 350 Nm of torque which will allow an average consumption of 4.2 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 109 g/km.
The version spiced up by AMG is already being developed, and it seems, it will come with a four-cylinder 2.0 engine that produces close to 350 hp. (All engines are direct injection and come as standard with the start/stop system).
The new Mercedes CLA will hit the national market next summer, until then, we can only enjoy the photos and video below:
