New generation of the Porsche 911 is already “moving”

The introduction of a hybrid variant will be one of the main new features of the new Porsche 911.

The next generation Porsche 911 is not expected to hit the road until 2019 and the Stuttgart brand is already working on the successor to the current generation (991.2). In aesthetic terms, the silhouette that Porsche has inhabited us should remain practically unchanged (the usual…). But according to Car and Driver, the Stuttgart brand's most iconic model is expected to undergo a further increase in its dimensions.

For now, one of the certainty is the 'flat-six' engine position behind the rear axle . Although Porsche has given the “arm of the cheer” with the new 911 RSR, equipped with a centrally positioned engine, the next production 911 will keep the engine “in the wrong place”. In this way, Porsche not only avoids having to break a tradition that is already part of the brand's identity, it also manages to save enough space for the two rear seats.

Despite this, as has been happening for some years now, the Porsche will again pull the engine a little more towards the center of the chassis, in order to distribute the weight more evenly between the axles.

Also in relation to the engine, the staunch defenders of the blocks of six opposite cylinders can rest assured. If there were any doubts, the four-cylinder turbo mechanics of the 718 Cayman and Boxster will not be adopted in the new Porsche 911.

As for the future hybrid variant, Oliver Blume, CEO of the German brand, has already confirmed the adoption of alternative engines across the entire Porsche range, including the 911. Therefore, it is to be expected that this will be one of the novelties of the next model, which will be able to count with one autonomy in 100% electric mode at around 50 km.
