Vulcano Titanium: the first super sports car built in titanium

The sports car from the Italian company Icona will be one of the highlights of the Top Marques Salon, in Monaco.

The history of this model goes back to 2011, when the first “Icona Fuselage” concept was launched by the company founded in Turin. The aim was to create a car with a dominant look that reflects overwhelming power, but at the same time preserves the mastery of Italian design.

In this sense, several ideas were discussed in the following months, but it was only in 2013 at the Shanghai Motor Show that the final version, the Icona Vulcano, was presented. Since then, the model has been a constant presence in several international fairs, and the success was such that the company decided to upgrade its sports car.

For this, Icona teamed up with one of its long-time partners, Cecomp, and designed a super sports car with titanium and carbon fiber bodywork, something unprecedented in the automotive industry. All the work was done by hand and took over 10,000 hours to complete. The design was inspired by the Blackbird SR-71, the fastest airplane in the world.

However, the Vulcano Titanium is not just plain sight: under the hood is a V8 6.2 block with 670 hp and 840 Nm, and according to Icona, it is possible to raise the power levels to 1000 hp if the owner so wishes. The entire development of this engine was carried out by Claudio Lombardi and Mario Cavagnero, both responsible for some of the most successful competition cars in the world.

The Vulcano Titanium will be on display at the 13th edition of the Top Marques Salon, which will take place at the Grimaldi Forum (Monaco) between the 14th and the 17th of April.
