It was at the end of last year that Porsche launched the 718 Cayman, a model that debuted a four-cylinder opposing turbo mechanic. After the presentations, we are getting closer and closer to discovering the sharpest version of this model: the Cayman GT4.
The sports car is already in the development phase and was seen driving on the Nürburgring for the first time last week. Aside from the name change – 718 Cayman GT4 – and minor styling revisions, it will be a model in every way similar to its predecessor – a wise decision, judging by the success it had with the brand's enthusiasts.
Given the more predictable new features – front splitter, slightly more creased side skirts – designer Laurent Schmidt imagined the Porsche Cayman GT4 in its new skin.
«Flat-six» engine and manual gearbox
More than the aesthetic component, curiosity resides mainly in the engine to be adopted. And it seems, the Porsche Cayman GT4 should use a less powerful version of the 4.0-liter boxer six-cylinder of the recently launched Porsche 911 GT3, at around 400 hp – 15 hp more than the previous model. Porsche's fears that the Cayman will outperform the 911 are not new…
Regarding transmissions, Porsche should allow its customers to choose between a six-speed manual gearbox and the usual dual-clutch PDK, as in the 911 GT3. The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 will only be launched in the second half of 2018.
