HGP Turbo transforms Volkswagen Passat into a 480 hp «bug»

For fans of the tuning universe, the HGP Turbo is for sure a very familiar name. In its portfolio, the German preparer has projects that are as bizarre as they are impressive – one of the best known is perhaps the Volkswagen Golf R with 800 hp of power.

The latest HGP Turbo guinea pig was the Volkswagen Passat Variant. In its most powerful version, the van is equipped with a 2.0 TSI engine with 280 hp, the same engine that equips, for example, the new Arteon. A level of power that, in the eyes of a rig used to extracting the most from the Volkswagen Group's engines, is clearly low.

Thanks to a new turbocharger and a host of other mechanical modifications – air filter, exhaust system, etc – the HGP added 200 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque to the 2.0 TSI total. 480 hp of power and 600 Nm of torque.

To handle all this power and torque, HGP made small adjustments to the DSG gearbox and opted for a KW suspension and 370mm front brake discs. With 200 more horses, performances could only improve. This Volkswagen Passat only takes now 4.5 seconds from 0-100km , taking 1.2 seconds off the series model.

Unfortunately, this is a one-off model and as such will not be available for sale, not even in the form of a modification pack.
