There is no going back. The 400 hp of power will be the flagship of the next generation of the Mercedes-AMG A 45, which will only be known after the unveiling of the more modest Mercedes-Benz Class A, later this year.
The current 2.0 four-cylinder turbo engine, capable of delivering 381 hp and 475 Nm, is expected to retain the capacity and the architecture, but everything else will be completely new – including the power level. Tobias Moers, president of Mercedes-AMG, had already said that the new Mercedes-AMG A 45 is a kind of “blank sheet”.
During this weekend, on the sidelines of the Nürburgring 24 Hours, Moers spoke again about the small German sports car. The big news? Confirmation that the improvements in the technical sheet will make room for slightly less powerful versions.
Tobias Moers, President of Mercedes-AMG"As we do with the larger models, we are going to complement the 45 models with two new versions"
The new models will be positioned below the A 45, CLA 45 and GLA 45 (in the same line as the Mercedes-AMG C 63 and C 43), with a lower power level and a friendlier price – the current Mercedes-AMG A 45 costs in Portugal just over 60 thousand euros. Some rumors point to the A 40 as the name of the most accessible version of the A 45. Power of this version? Above 300 hp by our predictions. Or in other words, a 'decaffeinated' 45 AMG.
