The Porsche 911 R will be a limited edition with GT3 DNA

Porsche will release a limited edition Porsche 911 in homage to the original 911 R. It will have a manual gearbox and will be powered by the 911 GT3 engine.

When the Porsche 911 GT3 was unveiled, the Stuttgart-based brand received criticism for not offering a manual gearbox as an option. But for Porsche what mattered was speed and if the car was actually faster with the PDK gearbox, then there would be no manual gearbox, to the unhappiness of the purists.

With the introduction of the Cayman GT4, Porsche recognized that there is a market that “sighs” for its models with manual transmission as the only option. Do you know what the good news is? Porsche will once again satisfy the needs of this niche market.

According to the North American magazine Road and Track, Porsche will build just 600 Porsche 911 R, cars that will be a tribute to the original Porsche 911 R, with manual transmission and powered by the 3.8 l and 475 hp engine of the 911 GT3.

Compared to the 911 GT3, it will be wingless, lighter and have considerably smaller tires. We can even say that this is a hardcore version of the GT3…much improved!
