The 11th generation of Toyota's most successful model has finally been unveiled. This new Toyota Corolla was clearly inspired by the Furia Concept, Toyota's prototype unveiled this year at the Detroit Motor Show.
Officially unveiled yesterday in Santa Monica, Calif., the new Toyota Corolla is now owner and master of a more aggressive and less conservative look. So at first glance, it seems to us that Toyota intends, with this new Corolla, to face the new Ford Focus and its "compadre" Honda Civic.
The lines do not hide the well-known Corolla DNA of the last generations, but this time the Japanese brand took greater care when it comes to design. At the front, the highlight is the huge air intake for engine cooling. Note also to the headlights that, despite having the same format as the previous ones, now have a more youthful and sophisticated appearance.
The rear looks different… mainly because of the headlights that now follow the same style as the headlights. The rear bumpers also underwent changes, leaving that shape more square to give rise to a more 90-60-90 shape.
From what we were told, the new Toyota Corolla is 4.62 m long and 2.70 m wheelbase, as well as more space in the cabin and trunk. For the interior, we can expect something very similar to what we already know from the new Toyota Auris.
The platform of the new 2014 Toyota Corolla is made of high-strength steel, which ensures greater rigidity and safety. As is customary in all car brands, there is a concern with the weight of each car. For this, Toyota replaced several components of the previous body with lighter materials, still carrying out some modifications to optimize the power/weight ratio. So, you can expect a new Toyota Corolla that is more efficient, smoother and more exciting.
Regarding engines, we still don't know what's coming to the European market, but rumors point to a 5% improvement in consumption compared to the previous generation. We can only wait for more Toyota news.
