Between the Audi R8 and the Audi TT, there may be room for one more model. Porsche can help...

According to AutoBild, Audi could be developing a new sports car to fill the gap between the Audi R8 and the Audi TT.

According to the German publication, the new model could be called Audi R6 – a model that for now is known internally by the code name PO455. There are still no technical details about the hypothetical Audi R6, but the possibility of sharing the platform with the next generation Porsche 718 (Boxster and Cayman) is being advanced.

Unlike the Porsche 718, which will use a rear-wheel drive system only, the Audi model will have to adopt a quattro all-wheel drive system and in-line four-cylinder engines. Remember that this is not the first time this rumor has appeared in the press. The first time there was talk of a hypothetical intermediate model between the R8 and the TT was in 2010, the year in which the Inglostadt brand presented the Audi quattro Concept (highlighted image).
