Mercedes Vision Tokyo: a living room on the move

Mercedes Vision Tokyo will be one of the 'Stuttgart stars' at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Mercedes believes that in the near future the car will effectively be autonomous. He also believes that with driving delivered to the car, in the near future the car will start to function as a moving living room, where passengers patiently await their arrival at their destination. With this paradigm shift, the interior layout of today's cars with front and rear-facing seats will no longer make sense. The Mercedes Vision Tokyo is the materialization of this vision of the future.

Therefore, the new Estaguarda concept has an interior configuration that is totally different from the usual, with an oval sofa dominating the cabin in almost its entire length – similar to what we find in modern lounges. The interior is fully interactive and uses hologram technology in the center and LED displays throughout the cabin. A disposition that, according to the brand, took into account the trends of Generation Z (people born after 1995) who value conviviality, connectivity and technology.

The dimensions of the Mercedes Vision Tokyo are similar to a traditional MPV (with the exception of the excessive 26-inch wheels visible on the teasers shown): 4803mm long, 2100mm wide and 1600mm high. To escape from outside eyes, the Mercedes-Benz Vision Tokyo will have windows painted the same color as the vehicle's exterior. The use of large windows also allows the entry of a greater percentage of natural light.

As for engines, the Mercedes Vision Tokyo was designed with batteries that give it 190 km of autonomy and a hydrogen fuel cell capable of generating energy for 790 km, in a total of almost 1000 km of autonomy between refuelings. It is the second time that the German brand has envisioned the future of the automobile under this 'living room' concept, the first time being with the Mercedes-Benz F 015 Luxury in Motion.
