François Ribeiro: WTCC in Portugal could be unique

According to Autosport, citing François Ribeiro, the man who runs the WTCC, the Vila Real circuit could become a unique case worldwide, with the possibility of making the roundabout before the finish line on both sides. This person in charge sees many possibilities in the circuit he fell in love with the first time he visited him, in November.

But he was not the only one to surrender to the Portuguese route. Some drivers even said that the Vila Real city circuit was similar to a mix between the Nürburgring circuit (due to the requirement) and the Macau Circuit (because it is located in an urban area).

In the future, François Ribeiro wants the biggest and most challenging circuit. But the idea that made this responsible more enthusiastic was the roundabout with passage on both sides, which this year the FIA did not authorize “just because the roundabout is used for the entrance to the pits. I wanted to be able to do the roundabout on both sides, so the drivers could use two trajectories, like they do in the Tour de France”.

"I've already talked to the riders about it. If that happens, it will be a unique circuit, and it would be fantastic for television. They told me I was crazy, but I was crazy already, otherwise we wouldn't have the Nürburgring in the championship."

It seems that effectively, the WTCC is in the right hands. It's a case of saying: Portugal scored one more goal. And there are already 5 against the rest of the world.
