The FIA has announced a readjustment to the calendar for the 2016 season of the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). The Portuguese stage in Vila Real was initially scheduled for June 11th and 12th, but due to the inclusion of Russia in the WTCC calendar, the stage will be played between June 24th and 26th, while the Moscow event occupies the previous date attributed to the Portuguese journey.
In any case, the Portuguese race remains the last European stage before the prolonged interruption in July, which guarantees greater flexibility in the logistics operations and transport of vehicles to South America. François Ribeiro, head of the WTCC, he says that “the intention has always been to keep Russia on the race calendar”, and for that reason, he says he is satisfied with the agreement reached with the Moscow Circuit and with the Portuguese Federation of Automobile and Karting.
