Mercedes announced days ago that its most powerful C-Class ever, the new C63 AMG Black Series Coupé, will be the official DTM Safety Car for the new season.
Since 2000 (year of the birth of the “new” DTM), Mercedes-Benz has been supplying Safety Cars for the German race, alternating with Audi from race to race. The 2012 season will also feature BMW, who will join the party with their new M3.
At the wheel of this C63 AMG will be the driver, Jürgen Kastenholz, who will be responsible for ensuring the safety of drivers, spectators and track marshals in the most adverse situations.
This version has the same engine as the production car, a 6.3-liter V8 with 517 hp and 620 Nm, which allows a sprint from 0 to 100km/h in just 4.2 seconds and a limited top speed of 300 km/h. On a mechanical level, only the exhaust system was changed.
Visually there are no major changes either, except for the LED light bar on the roof of the car... As for the interior, the Safety Car has a new pair of AMG seats with four-point seat belts, a two-way radio system and a TV monitor installed in the center console.
The DTM championship will start next weekend, April 29, at the Hockenheimring, so don't forget to support the Portuguese driver, Filipe Albuquerque, who will be driving the new Audi A5 DTM.
