The first details about the future Mercedes SL begin to emerge.

With a presentation scheduled for the North American Internation Motor Show, in the city of Los Angeles, the details of the new roadster of the German brand begin to emerge. As the main novelty of the new model, the slimming cure to which the model was subjected is highlighted. Compared to its predecessor, the new SL – which will be marketed next year – has lost an expressive 140kg, thanks to the intensive use of light materials such as aluminium.

Despite this substantial weight loss, Mercedes still managed to increase the torsional strength of the new chassis by 20%, thanks to the introduction of new molding techniques and longitudinal reinforcements in the chassis. This increase, added to the decrease in the vehicle's total weight, will result in an even more effective dynamic behavior and superior rolling comfort.

In addition to the innovations in the chassis, there is also another absolute novelty, as is the hallmark of Mercedes whenever it launches a new model. This novelty is known as Magic Vision Control. And it's nothing more than a window-cleaner system that integrates “squirts” (also known as mija-mija) in a single piece in order to avoid the spray from the cabin caused by conventional systems (picture on the side).

Also in the field of comfort, Mercedes debuts a new sound system that, using speakers located at the occupants' feet, aims to avoid sound distortions caused by air circulation in the passenger compartment when rolling without a hood.

As for the engine, there are still no specifications. But taking into account the weight loss of the new SL, it is to be expected that in the field of consumption there will be a reduction in the order of 25% compared to the current model.
