A bird? An airplane? No, it's just the Venturi VBB-3, the fastest electric vehicle in the world.

Designed in 2013 by a group of young Ohio University researchers in partnership with the French brand Venturi, the Venturi VBB-3 was designed with a single goal in mind: to beat the land speed record for an electric vehicle. For this, it makes use of two electric motors with more than 3000 hp combined. The batteries alone to power this model weigh 1600 kg – the vehicle's total weight reaches 3.5 tonnes.

After two failed attempts to break the speed record in 2014 and 2015, the third was for good. In the “salt” of Bonneville Speedway, Utah, the Venturi VBB-3 completed the two courses of 11 miles (almost 18 kilometers) with an interval of one hour (thus following FIA regulations) at an average speed of 349 km/h .

In one of the sprints, the Venturi VBB-3 even reached a speed of 576 km/h, and according to pilot Roger Schroer, it is possible to exceed 600 km/h. Remember that the acceleration record from 0 to 100 km/h for an electric vehicle belongs to Grimsel, a small model developed by a team of Swiss students, with just 1.5 seconds.
