The first spy photos of the updated Mercedes-Benz G-Class

Anonim

It seems still early for the iconic G-Class to receive its first update, but although this pair of test prototypes have already been "picked up", rumors only point to a reveal towards the end of 2022.

The prototypes that we see in the image are, moreover, two Mercedes-AMG G 63 — the side exhausts denounce them — the G with the «thickest voice» of all, which was only launched in 2019.

Both prototypes have their fronts and rears camouflaged, so we should see "touches" given to the bumper and grille. The optics, both at the front and at the back, do not seem to be different, for now, from the existing ones of the model being commercialized.

Although we have no images of the interior, photographers reported that it was fully covered, which leads to speculating that we may see more substantial changes than just an MBUX system update or a new steering wheel.

And under the hood?

Given these somewhat precocious spy photos of the updated G-Class, it's still not possible to confirm whether there will be any mechanical news.

We can just line up with the rumors. We've seen Mercedes-Benz expand the use of the EQ-Boost (mild-hybrid 48 V system) to all their models, so it wouldn't be surprising to see it in the next G-Class.

Also Mercedes-AMG has already shown the hybrid future for its performance "monsters". Will, with this update, we see the future G 63 combining hydrocarbons with electrons, as happened with the GT 63 S E Performance?

Going in another direction, at the Munich Motor Show, held last September, we saw the future electric G being anticipated through the EQG prototype that will arrive, according to the brand, in 2024. Could Mercedes-Benz anticipate it to coincide with the launch of the refreshed G-Class?
