The best quarter ever for Hyundai in Europe

The first quarter of 2017 was Hyundai's best ever in the European market.

Hyundai is in shape and recommended. In the first three months of the year, it registered an increase in sales of 6.9% compared to the same period last year.

This increase translates into a total of 135,074 cars sold on European soil, which is a record for the brand. Sales were particularly strong in major European markets. The registered increases are expressive: 30% in France, 11% in Spain, 10% in Germany and also in the United Kingdom.

Portugal, despite being smaller, also contributed positively to Hyundai's result. The growth registered in our country was enormous, with an increase of 63% in the light vehicle market. In the Top 20 nationally, it was the brand that grew the most.

“Thanks to the renewed range we have, including the New Hyundai i30, and our growing presence in new segments, we are attracting new customers to Hyundai. With the extension of our model offering, we are confident that we will continue to grow to become the number one Asian automotive brand in Europe. These days, 90% of cars sold in Europe are designed, tested and produced in Europe. Our focus on Europe has proven to be a strong pillar that is driving us to success and delivering results.”

Thomas A. Schmid, COO of Hyundai Motor Europe

Hyundai should maintain this pace as a result of a recent range, where none of its models have been on the market for more than two years. The Hyundai i20, the new i30 and the Tucson are the Korean brand's best-selling models in the European market.

To aid the brand's performance, Hyundai's model range will be expanded with the addition of a new SUV, the Hyundai Kauai. It will be a compact SUV, positioned below Tucson, and should reach the domestic market by the end of this year.

Hyundai's ambitions for Europe are high. By 2021 they want to be the best-selling Asian brand in Europe, surpassing Nissan and the leader Toyota. To fulfill that goal, the Korean brand will launch up to 30 new models and variants in the next 4 years. In Portugal, in addition to Kauai, the brand will present this year the Plug-in Hybrid and Electric versions of the IONIQ and also the i30 SW (van).
