New Hyundai i30N: manual gearbox and (at least!) 260hp

Albert Biermann, former head of BMW M Performance, is the “genius” behind developing the new Hyundai i30N to develop this new model.

The next year will be very important for Hyundai. In addition to several launches – among which the Genesis premium offensive – the Korean brand will launch its first N Performance sports car: the Hyundai i30N.

A sporty hatchback equipped with a 2 liter turbo engine capable of developing over 260hp. This is said by Albert Biermann, director of this new department, in statements to Road & Track. This person in charge – who left BMW's M Perfomance department to embrace this project at Hyundai – even says that “the power may not be the greatest against our competition. But trying our car will see that we are in the race”.

NOT TO BE MISSED: Think you can drive? So this event is for you

Unlike some competitors, Biermann says he is not worried about track times, “our ultimate concern is the driving experience”. With over 260hp, a six-speed manual gearbox, locking differential and a chassis tuned by the technical team at Hyundai (now N Performance), it is expected that this Hyundai i30N will prove to be a serious opponent of models like the Peugeot 308 GTI, Volkswagen Golf and Seat Leon Cupra.
