Peugeot discusses leadership on the 5th day of the Dakar

The second half of the Marathon Stage could cause headaches for many riders.

The 5th stage of the Dakar 2016 connects Salvador de Jujuy and Uyuni, thus crossing the border between Argentina and Bolivia. With 327km, today's special includes sections of great difficulty that could cause navigation problems.

Furthermore, we remind you that at this stage (just like yesterday) it is not possible to provide mechanical assistance, particularly to the tyres. Another additional difficulty will be the altitude: 4,600m! The highest value recorded in the history of the Dakar, which together with the effects of wear and tear on yesterday's stage will certainly affect the pace of the race.

After a day marked by the dominance of Peugeot, Sébastien Loeb starts this stage in the first position of the general classification; however, the French driver admits that the advantage of 4m48s over his colleague Stéphane Peterhansel is "a very short difference in a rally like this". Portuguese Carlos Sousa continues his recovery in the table. With 24th place in yesterday's special, the Mitsubishi driver rose from 71st to 30th overall.
