Go for a glass of water... at 250km/h?

Ford's On-the-Go H2O project is among the finalists of the World Changing Ideas Awards 2017.

What if cars could be a source of clean water? Like the oil that fuels cars powered by combustion engines, clean water is also in short supply, especially in developing countries. It was with this in mind that four Ford engineers – Doug Martin, John Rollinger, Ken Miller and Ken Jackson – created the project On-the-Go H2O.

Imagine yourself traveling at 250 km/h in a Ford Mustang, turning on the tap and pouring yourself a glass of water… This could be possible thanks to a water recovery system. The water leaves the air conditioning system condenser and passes through a filter, making it available for consumption by the driver and passengers, even while driving.

“All wasted water should be used to serve some purpose. […] It would be fantastic if this system could reach production models”.

Doug Martin, Ford Engineer

The On-the-Go H2O project is one of the 17 finalists – which also features the Hyperloop – in the “Transport” category of the World Changing Ideas Awards 2017, by Fast Company magazine, which rewards innovative ideas in various industries.
