Formula 1. Porsche return in 2018?

Anonim

Porsche revealed last month that it is considering a possible return to Formula 1. Lutz Meschke, vice chairman of the Stuttgart brand's executive board, will have confirmed that interest during the last Italian Grand Prix at the beginning of September. Everything will depend on the new engine regulation.

If confirmed, it would be the return of one of the most famous manufacturers, away from these “deals” since 1991, to the most popular car competition in the world.

As rumors roll in, Motorsport has created a 3D animation of what could be a Porsche Formula 1 car. Although it is not yet clear whether the possible return would be as a team, or just as an engine supplier. Anyway, we all hope it's true, right?

Just to remind you of Porsche's history in Formula 1…

Porsche started in Formula 1 with its own team in 1961, but ended up dropping out a year later, having not achieved the expected success.

In 1983, he returned to full competition, but only as an engine manufacturer. The TAG-Porsche engines were used by the McLaren team, which won two manufacturers' titles in 1984 and 1985 with drivers such as Niki Lauda and Alain Prost at the controls. In 1987 he ended up abandoning again, and in 1991 he returned to supplying engines to Footwork, but not having achieved a sufficiently competitive block, he ended up abandoning it to this day.
