A multi-perspective ride to Silverstone with the new Ford Mustang

A new interactive video allows viewers to experience a ride around the legendary UK Silverstone circuit from multiple perspectives in the new Ford Mustang.

The video, shot in Silverstone with a Mustang fastback with a 5.0 liter V8 engine, allows the viewer to select the perspective of who is inside the Mustang at the wheel using the mouse or the cursor. Just like in a video game, users can very easily change the perspective to the helicopter or bumper view, check the Mustang's position on a map, or check the speedometer and tachometer.

“We wanted everyone to be able to experience a Mustang V8 at high speed on a great circuit,” said Mark Truby, vice president, Communications and Public Affairs, Ford of Europe. “What makes this video unique is that the viewer completely controls the point of view. They can see in any direction, just as if they were in the Mustang's cockpit, change the perspective of view, check speed and revs. It's totally immersive.”

Shooting for the 80 seconds of the film was done in a single day using six GoPro cameras inside the car, as well as cameras in a 'drone' and in the front bumper. They were then meticulously edited to get a perfect picture. Professional driver Paul Swift drove the Mustang the 2.6km perimeter of the Silverstone National Circuit, home of the British F1 Grand Prix.

“I've never seen a 360° movie of this quality – it's really like being in a car,” said Swift. “I would really like to tell you how it was done, but I swore to secrecy!”.
