The most psychedelic Porsche 356 C ever will be on display at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance.
It was 1968 when Janis Joplin, looking for a daily driver, discovered a Porsche 356 C 1600 SC Cabriolet in a used car lot, for a measly $3,500. As a great promoter of psychedelic rock, the singer wanted to have a car tailored to her, and therefore, asked Dave Richards, manager and road partner, to color the car in a hippie style.
A month and a lot of paint later, the German model with 4 opposite cylinders and 95hp was nicknamed “The History of the Universe”, as we can see by the miscellany of colors and shapes. After the singer's death, the car was on display for about 20 years, until it was sold by RM Sotheby's for $1.76 million at the end of last year, a price four times higher than expected.
