The German brand's sports car family meets a new member, the Volkswagen Golf GTE, which is scheduled to debut at the Geneva Motor Show.

Volkswagen this week released the first images of its new "eco-sport", the Volkswagen Golf GTE. A model that joins the GTD and GTI versions, to close this «trilogy». The release confirmation had already been advanced by us here.

While the latter two use a diesel and gasoline engine, respectively, the Volkswagen Golf GTE uses a hybrid solution to offer performance worthy of the GT family. This version uses a 1.4 TFSI engine with 150 hp from the VW Group, and an electric motor with 102 hp.

When these two engines work together, the Volkswagen Golf GTE achieves a combined power of 204 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Enough values for the GTE to accelerate to 100 km/h in just 7.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 217 km/h.

Using exclusively electric mode, the GTE has homologated consumption of just 1.5 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 35 g/km, being able to travel 50 km in fully electric mode (available up to 130 km/h). which translates into an announced total autonomy of 939 km.

Inside and out, the differences for its siblings are just a matter of detail. Expecting dynamic credentials very close to the GTD and GTI, despite the additional weight of the batteries. Production of the GTE will start this summer, while its presentation is scheduled for next March, at the Geneva Motor Show.
