Stefano Domenicali left this Monday the post of Ferrari team leader, resigning following a meeting with Luca di Montezemolo, Ferrari president.
The reasons we all know what they are. A disastrous start to the season without a single podium, fighting only for the Top 10, destroyed the confidence that Montezemolo still had in the Italian. Domenicali's resignation came this morning, after seven and a half years as team leader.
The pressure from Fernando Alonso, who was always against Stefano Domenicali staying ahead of the Formula 1 team's destinies, must have also counted for this position. According to Italian sources, Domenicali will be replaced by Marco Mattiaci, a trusted man from Ferrari (with 15 years of career within the brand) but with no previous connections to motorsport, having been president and CEO of Ferrari North America until this weekend.
With the need for far-reaching changes to single-seaters, it's hard to believe that improvements in Scuderia Ferrari results will come before next season. Without a doubt, a desert crossing for the whole team.
