Mitsubishi L200 2015: more technological and efficient

Mitsubishi is preparing the renewal of the L200 – or Triton as it is known in the Asian market. Scheduled for sale in 2015 in European markets, the changes in this popular pick-up are profound.

In terms of mechanics, the L200 receives significant improvements in the 4D56CR block in terms of electronic management, which will help this Japanese pick-up meet the demanding Euro6 anti-pollution standards. Until now the 2.5Di-D was proposed in two versions: one with 136hp and the other with 178hp. In 2015, the 136hp variant will charge 140hp and 400Nm, while the 178hp variant will move to 180hp and 430Nm.

But that's not all, as the L200 will debut the new 4N15 block from Mitsubishi. An all-aluminum block, capable of delivering 182hp at 3,500rpm and 430Nm of maximum torque at 2500rpm. In addition to these numbers, this block promises a 20% improvement in consumption compared to the current 2.5Di-D, as well as 17% less CO₂ emissions. Numbers that are achieved in part thanks to the adoption of the variable distribution system (MIVEC) – for the first time present in a diesel engine from Mitsubishi.

As for the transmission, the L200 will feature a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 5-speed automatic, both coupled with the Easy Select 4WD all-wheel drive system. In other words, the gearshift lever gives way to a button that allows you to electronically switch (up to 50km/h) between rear-wheel drive (2WD) and all-wheel drive (4WD) with 2 modes 4H(high) and 4L(low) , to progress in more difficult terrain.

On the outside, although it looks like a slight facelift, all panels are new. The front has a new grille with LED daylight bulbs, as well as HID or Xenon halogen lighting for the top versions. At the rear, the optics are new and integrate the bodywork more deeply. Note that the 2WD versions have a ground height of 195mm, while the 4WD versions have a ground height of 200mm.

Inside, the changes are less noticeable, but the dimensions of habitability have increased 20mm in length and 10mm in width. The brand also promises improvements in sound insulation.

As far as the equipment is concerned, the L200 promises to come full of news, such as: the Keyless Entry system, keyless access and start/stop button; Mitsubishi multimedia entertainment system with GPS navigation; and rear parking camera. In the safety equipment, in addition to the usual ABS and airbags, we also have the electronic stability program together with traction control (ASTC), as well as a specific stability program (TSA), which helps in towing objects.
