The BMW 8 Series could return in 2020 to take on the status of the German brand's top-of-the-range coupe.

The news about the return of the 8 Series is not unprecedented, but this time, sources linked to BMW assured Autocar that the German brand even plans to move towards the production of the historic standard-bearer for BMW. In a process shrouded in secretism, the new 8 Series is expected to adopt the latest technologies used in the 7 Series, but with an even more sporty and modern spirit.

The new model will be produced at the Dingolfing unit in Germany and should have as its main rival the Mercedes-Benz S-Class cabriolet. According to sources close to the brand, those responsible for BMW are torn between a 2-door coupé/cabrio version and a larger four-door variant. Everything indicates that the concept that will be presented in 2018 will clarify all doubts regarding BMW's plans.
