Opel Mokka X: more adventurous than ever

The Opel Mokka X arrives at the Swiss event with a renewed image. Redesigned exterior details and a new multimedia system are some of the new features.

After having sold more than half a million units in Europe, the German brand is determined to give a breath of fresh air to the compact crossover Opel Mokka X.

Among numerous new features presented by the brand, the main highlights are the horizontal grille in the shape of a wing – with a more elaborate design, giving up some plastics present in the previous generation and LED daytime running lights that accompany the new front “wing”. The rear LED lights (optional) underwent minor aesthetic changes, following the dynamics of the front lights.

Will these aesthetic changes solve the Mokka problem on national highways? We have doubts. Remember that the current model pays class 2 at tolls, which has substantially limited the commercial success of the model on national soil.

By using the “X” nomenclature, Opel wants to convey a bolder, more masculine (new positioning on the way?) and adventurous look.

The new Opel Mokka X isn't just about exterior details. Inside the crossover, we find a cabin inherited from the Opel Astra, with a seven (or eight) inch touchscreen, simpler and with fewer buttons – many of the functions are now integrated into the touch screen. The Mokka X has the OnStar and IntelliLink systems, which leads the German brand to claim that this will be the compact crossover with the most “connection” in the segment.

NOT TO BE MISSED: We've already tested the new Opel Astra

The new Opel Mokka X also includes powertrains: new 1.4 petrol engine capable of delivering 152hp – inherited from the Astra – combined with a six-speed automatic transmission. There will also be an adaptive all-wheel drive system, which sends maximum torque to the front axle or makes a 50/50 split between the two axles, depending on the road conditions.

The new Opel Mokka X is scheduled to debut at the Geneva Motor Show, along with the electric Opel Ampera-e. Get to know all the news here.
