What is Honda doing at the Nürburgring?

Twists, twists and turns. This summer Honda has made the Nürburgring its “beach”. New Type R on the way…

While we gather strength on a well-deserved vacation (ok… some of us), somewhere on the Nürburgring (Germany) Honda engineers have no rest. Why? Because the Paris Motor Show – the auto industry's rentrée after the summer break – is almost here. As we reported yesterday, the Japanese brand is preparing a concept of the Type R's successor, in a version that is closer and closer to the production version.

Hence, in recent months, Honda's development team has been a constant presence at the demanding and dreaded German circuit. Today we publish a video where you can watch the track work of one of the test mules of the new Civic Type R:

The new model is expected to reach dealers next year. The power of the acclaimed 2.0 VTEC Turbo engine should rise to 340hp, bringing it closer to one of the references in the segment: the Ford Focus RS. Can Honda's «front-wheel-drive samurai» stand up to the all-wheel-drive Focus RS? In this fight between lightness and motor skills, we'll have to wait to find out who wins.

One thing is certain: when it comes to front-wheel drive cars, Honda doesn't need any lessons from any brand. Therefore, the struggle for supremacy among C-segment sports is increasingly intense. Rear, front or all-wheel drive, there are solutions for all tastes.
