Heresy? Shelby shows prototype on Ford Mustang Mach-E GT

Anonim

Ford's presence at the 2021 edition of SEMA (the largest aftermarket, or accessories, in the world), in Las Vegas (USA), brought with it a proposal that many had not even dared to imagine: a Mustang Mach-E GT with the Shelby seal.

Yes that's right. The 100% electric crossover from the blue oval brand received the attention of Shelby, from whom we are more used to seeing pony cars with powerful V8s, even if it is just a prototype for now. But never say never to come one in the future.

From an aesthetic point of view, the carbon fiber body kit stands out with more aggressive aerodynamic elements, an opening in the hood and a front grille that immediately remind us of the “brother” Mustang Shelby GT350 and, of course, the famous decoration by Shelby: two blue stripes superimposed on white paint.

In profile, the 20” forged wheels stand out, which help reinforce the more muscular character of this version, which also features the MagneRide suspension with a special tuning and carbon fiber springs, for an even better performance. .

Ford and Shelby do not mention any alteration to the kinematic chain of this Mach-E GT, which combines two electric motors (one per axle) and a battery with 98.7 kWh that together produce 358 kW (487 hp) and 860 Nm maximum torque — the same values as the Mustang Mach-E GT.

This wasn't the only Ford Mustang Mach-E prototype that was present at this year's SEMA. The blue oval brand also took a proposal signed by California designer Neil Tjin and another that will be auctioned to help the Austin Hatcher Foundation.

"California Love"

But let's go by parts. The first, called the Tjin Edition Mustang Mach-E California Route One, was created to celebrate California car culture and features an orange paint job that doesn't go unnoticed.

Also noteworthy is the pneumatic suspension that allows this Mach-E to almost touch the ground, the huge 22” Vossen wheels that completely fill the wheel arches of this tram and the solar panels installed on the roof, which promise to help charge the car. rear-mounted electric bike.

For a good cause

The second proposal, called the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer Mustang Mach-E GT AWD, exists for two reasons: the first is soon unveiled by name, as this prototype will be auctioned for the benefit of that foundation; the second has to do with the fact that this prototype was designed to try to reach the record of 200 miles per hour (321 km/h) during the 2022 Bonneville Speed Week, in the famous salt desert.

No mention is made of any mechanical modifications made to this version to achieve this, but several aesthetic changes are noticeable, with particular emphasis on the very pronounced front lip and the carbon rear wing.
