BMW M4 Convertible: hair-in-the-wind performance

Anonim

More powerful and lighter than its predecessor, the BMW M4 Convertible has all the spices to be a worthy representative of the M division in the category "hair in the wind".

Normally, the concept of a cabriolet car takes us to pleasant and calm walks with the hair in the wind. But as you know, BMW's M division has its own vision of automobiles. And the BMW M4 Convertible is another very peculiar creation of this Bavarian school. This model replaces the BMW M3 Convertible, a lineage that now has 5 generations.

Without turning your face to a relaxing stroll along the beach, the BMW M4 Convertible with its “combat” look doesn't hide anyone who prefers a diet based on high revs, burnt rubber and big powerslides. This is largely due to the same twin-turbo six-cylinder engine that powers the new M3 and M4 Coupé. An engine that develops 430hp of power and 550Nm of maximum torque.

The performance that this BMW M4 Convertible offers, promises to accelerate the hair loss of those who suffer from baldness. But the experience seems worth the risk...

With the manual transmission the M4 Convertible reaches 100km/h in 4.6 seconds, while with the automatic transmission the same exercise is completed in 4.4 seconds. Both are 0.3 seconds slower than the M4 Coupé. Mainly due to the extra 250kg in total weight (roof and structural reinforcements). Yet the new M4 Convertible is 60 kg lighter than the previous M3 Convertible.

Top speed is still limited to 250km/h, while consumption figures out a relatively measured 9.1l/100km in the manual version, with CO2 emissions of 213g/km. These numbers drop to 203g/km and 8.7l/100km with the dual clutch gearbox. The world premiere of the new BMW M4 Convertible is scheduled for the 2014 New York Motor Show.
