Jeep Wrangler 4xe. All About the First Electrified Wrangler

Anonim

Seen as the future of the automobile industry, electrification is gradually reaching all segments, including pure and hard jeeps, as evidenced by the Jeep Wrangler 4x.

Unveiled nine months ago in its homeland, the US, and now available for order on the “old continent”, the Wrangler 4xe is the latest member of the Jeep “electrified offensive” that already has the Compass 4xe and Renegade 4xe.

Visually it is not easy to distinguish the plug-in hybrid version from the combustion-only ones. The differences are limited to the loading door, the specific wheels (17' and 18'), the electric blue details on the “Jeep”, “4xe” and “Trail Rated” emblems and, in the Rubicon equipment level, the logo indicating the electric blue version and the 4x logo on the hood.

Inside, there is a new instrument panel with a 7" color screen, an 8.4" central screen compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a battery charge level monitor with LED on top of the panel. instruments.

Respect Numbers

In the mechanical chapter, the Wrangler 4x that we are going to have in Europe follows the recipe of the North American version. In total the 4xe comes with three engines: two electric motor-generators powered by a 400V, 17kWh battery pack and a 2.0l four-cylinder turbo petrol engine.

The first electric motor-generator is connected to the combustion engine (replaces the alternator). In addition to working in synergy with it, it can also function as a high voltage generator. The second engine-generator is integrated into the eight-speed automatic gearbox and has the function of producing traction and recovering energy during braking.

The end result of all this is a maximum combined power of 380 hp (280 kW) and 637 Nm, sent to all four wheels via the aforementioned TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission.

All of this allows the Jeep Wrangler 4x to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4s while showing an almost 70% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the corresponding petrol version. Average consumption is 3.5 l/100 km in hybrid mode and announces an electric autonomy of up to 50 km in urban areas.

Speaking of the electric autonomy and the batteries that ensure it, these are “tidy” under the second row of seats, which allowed to keep the luggage compartment capacity unchanged compared to the combustion versions (533 liters). Finally, charging can be done in less than three hours on a 7.4 kWh charger.

The loading door appears well disguised.

As for the driving modes, these are exactly the same ones we presented to you nine months ago when the Wrangler 4xe was unveiled for the US: hybrid, electric and eSave. In the field of all-terrain skills, these were left intact, even with the electrification.

When arrives?

Proposed in the “Sahara”, “Rubicon” and “80th Anniversary” equipment levels, the Jeep Wrangler 4x still doesn't have prices for the national market. Even so, it is already available for ordering, with the arrival of the first units at dealerships scheduled for June.
