As Antonella Bruno, responsible for the Jeep in Europe, had told us in an interview about two weeks ago, the new Jeep Grand Cherokee has just received a plug-in hybrid version called Grand Cherokee 4xe , which also debuts the five-seat version.
Announced during the Stellantis EV Day, a journey where the various brands of the group led by Carlos Tavares presented their strategies and news related to electric mobility, this version will only be presented more widely at the New York Salon, which takes place between the 20th and 29th of August.
Only then will we get to know in full what changes in the Grand Cherokee 4xe, which corresponds to the fifth generation of a model that has already sold more than seven million units worldwide.
What is known?
In addition to the official images now released by Jeep, which already allow a glimpse of how the exterior image of the new Grand Cherokee will be, and knowing that this SUV will be electrified with the American brand's 4x technology, little or nothing else is known. .
We'll have to wait for the New York event to find out about the mechanics that will serve as the basis for this 4xe version and to get to know the records that this SUV will achieve. However, it won't be unreasonable to think that this Grand Cherokee 4xe might receive the plug-in hybrid mechanics of the Wrangler 4xe that we met (and drove!) recently in Turin.
We are, of course, talking about a hybrid powertrain that combines two electric motor-generators and a lithium-ion battery pack of 400 V and 17 kWh with a turbo gasoline engine with four cylinders and 2.0 liters of capacity, guaranteeing power combined maximum of 380 hp and 637 Nm of maximum torque.
Remember that the version with three rows of seats, called Grand Cherokee L, was presented earlier this year in the United States, but we still don't know if it will reach Europe.
