Porsche. Suppliers that do not produce using renewable energy lose contracts

Porsche remains committed to reducing CO2 emissions on its production line and has just asked its around 1300 suppliers to use only renewable energy in the manufacture of its components starting this month.

This measure applies to all companies that have a contract to supply components for new vehicles of the Stuttgart brand and who are not willing to switch to green energy will not be “considered for long-term contracts with Porsche”.

“Our battery cell suppliers have had to use green energy since 2020. Now we are taking an important next step: we have decided that our suppliers must also only use renewable energy to produce our components, to help reduce further CO2 emissions,” says Uwe-Karsten Städter, Member of the Executive Purchasing Board at Porsche AG.

We recognize that we have a responsibility to ensure that supply chains are transparent and sustainable.

Porsche wants to be CO2-neutral across the entire value chain by 2030 and this decision will be critical to achieving this ambitious goal.

“Using only renewable energy sources, our suppliers are following our example and our efforts to achieve CO2 neutrality. We want to have even more intensive conversations with our partners in order to drive improvements in our sustainability. Only by working together will we be able to combat ongoing climate change,” explains Städter.

Porsche is also reducing CO2 emissions in its factories and the production of the Taycan is the perfect example of that as it has been carbon neutral since launch in 2019. And since 2020 this has also become true for everyone the vehicles manufactured in Zuffenhausen, namely the 911 and 718.

Earlier this year, the Development Center in Weissach and the factory in Leipzig, where Macan and Panamera are produced, followed suit, meaning that Porsche's main production units are already CO2 neutral.
