Vision Gran Turismo. Porsche's electric supercar, just for the virtual world

After brands such as Audi, Bugatti, Jaguar, McLaren or Toyota, Porsche also created a prototype exclusively designed for the Gran Turismo saga. The result was the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo which will be “launched” in Gran Turismo 7.

Porsche has long been one of the absentee brands from Gran Turismo. If you remember, until 2017, the closest we had to their models in Gran Turismo were the RUF, a situation that changed from .

Despite being exclusively intended for the «virtual world», Porsche did not fail to create a physical and full-scale prototype of the Vision Gran Turismo, anticipating those that could very well become the lines of future electric sports cars of the German brand.

Inspired by the past, focused on the future

Despite being designed for the virtual world (and 100% electric), the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo does not forget its origins and there are several design elements that betray the inspiration in other models of the Stuttgart brand.

At the front, the headlights are in a very low position and the clean appearance reminds us of the Porsche 909 Bergspyder from 1968; the proportions are typical of Porsche models with a mid-range rear engine and the light strip at the rear doesn't hide the inspiration in the current 911 and Taycan.

The canopy gives access to a cabin where titanium and carbon are present and in which the holographic instrument panel seems to “float” above the steering wheel.

Despite being a prototype to only work in the virtual world, Porsche did not fail to reveal the technical and performance specifications of the Vision Gran Turismo.

To start with, the battery that powers the engines that send torque to the four wheels has 87 kWh of capacity and allows for 500 km of autonomy (and yes, measured according to the WLTP cycle).

As for power, this is normally at 820 kW (1115 hp), with overboost mode and launch control being able to reach 950 kW (1292 hp). All of this allows this prototype to accelerate up to 100 km/h in 2.1s, up to 200 km/h in 5.4s and reach 350 km/h.

On Porsche's involvement in Gran Turismo, Robert Ader, Vice President of Marketing at Porsche AG said: “The partnership with Polyphony Digital and Gran Turismo is perfect for Porsche because motorsport — whether real or virtual — makes part of our DNA”.

To virtually drive the new Porsche Vision Gran Turismo, we will have to wait for the launch of Gran Turismo 7, which is scheduled for March 4, 2022.
