Hertz orders 100,000 Model 3. The price? About 3.6 billion euros

Fresh out of bankruptcy just four months ago and with new owners, Hertz is back in force, announcing the reinforcement and renewal of its fleet with one of the best-selling electric models on the planet: the Tesla Model 3.

The car rental company didn't just order a few Model 3's, but a total of 100,000 units of the most affordable of the models of the Elon Musk brand, in an order with a value of 4.2 billion dollars (about 3.6 billion euros).

Corresponding to more than 10% of Tesla's annual production planned for this year, this order “helped” Elon Musk to increase his personal fortune by 36 billion dollars (close to 30 billion euros), the biggest increase in fortune registered in a single day, according to Bloomberg.

Tesla, too, naturally benefited from this mega-order, having become the first car company to achieve a stock market appreciation of more than one billion dollars, the equivalent of more than 860 billion euros, due to the increase in 12, 6% of the company's shares yesterday (October 26, 2021).

One of the largest fleets of trams in the world

With this order, which Hertz defined as an “initial order”, the US company aims to have “the largest fleet of electric rental vehicles in North America and one of the largest in the world”. The goal is for electric cars to account for 20% of Hertz's global fleet by the end of 2022.

The first Model 3s are expected to be available for rental as early as November, with Hertz planning to have these models available in 65 markets by the end of 2022 and in 100 markets by the end of 2023.

Electric vehicles are now commonplace and we are just beginning to see demand increase. The new Hertz will lead the way as a mobility company, starting with the largest rental electric vehicle fleet in North America and a commitment to grow our electric fleet and provide the best rental and charging experience.

Mark Fields, CEO of Hertz

Those who rent these Tesla Model 3s will have access to Tesla's Superchargers network, a digital guide for electric car customers, and “an accelerated electric car rental booking process” through the Hertz app.
