This Corvette Z06 traded its V8 for… Supra's 2JZ-GTE

Typically it's GM's LS7 V8 — or other Small Block variants — that takes the place of other engines. In the case of this Chevrolet Corvette Z06 that brings the LS7 V8 as “standard equipment”, it was this one that was exchanged and soon for one of the most famous six in line “made in Japan”.

In place of the atmospheric V8 with a whopping 7.0 l of capacity, delivering 512 hp at 6300 rpm and 637 Nm of torque delivered at 4800 rpm, we find the 2JZ-GTE, which became famous under the bonnet of the iconic Toyota Supra (A80).

It's not the first time we've seen a 2JZ-GTE be placed in the most unlikely of cars, but it's still not that common.

To “embrace” these new functions, the Japanese engine was the target of some improvements, starting to use a Precision 6870 turbo capable of a 20 psi boost and a MoTeC M130 ECU. The final result is 680 hp extracted from the six in line . Interestingly, the transmission is what the Corvette Z06 comes standard with, all thanks to some “cut and sew” work.

Despite the profound mechanical changes, the Corvette Z06 seems unaltered in aesthetic terms, making it very difficult for those who come across it to detect this unusual engine change.

I mean, it's only complicated until the driver decides to accelerate, because at that time the typical V8 roar won't make itself heard and quickly reveal that something strange is going on with this Corvette.

If you think this transformation is heresy, as we've already mentioned, this isn't the first time that the Supra's 2JZ-GTE replaces “pedigree” engines, having already been chosen to take the place of the V12 of a Ferrari 456 or the engine used by the BMW M3 (E46).
