While the Tesla Roadster accumulates kilometers in space, on planet Earth it is this Model S P85 which achieved a record for kilometers covered.

Purchased new in 2014 by Hansjörg Gemmingen to join a Tesla Roadster he already owned, this Model S proves that a car doesn't need several decades (or a combustion engine) to reach (very) high mileage.

Interestingly, both the Model S and the Gemmingen Roadster had already appeared in a list of Tesla copies with more kilometers that we released about a year ago. However, at that time the record-breaking Model S had “only” 700 thousand kilometers.

The “price” of such high mileage

Speaking to Edison Media, Gemmingen revealed that to achieve the mark of a million kilometers , the Model S had to receive a battery at 290 thousand kilometers and had to change electric motor three times. However, all these repairs were made under warranty.

To ensure that the battery lasts as long as possible, Gemmingen revealed that he never fully discharges the battery or charges it beyond 85%.

As for the next objectives, Gemmingen aims to reach the milestone of 1 million miles covered, in other words, around 1.6 million kilometers.
