Audi R8. More accessible version maintains rear wheel drive but is more powerful

Returned two years ago, the Audi R8 V10 RWD plays a curious role within the range of the German supercar. By giving up the quattro system, it presents itself as the most “accessible” way to access the R8 range. However, precisely because of its atmospheric V10 and rear-wheel drive it is also one of the “purest” R8s and close to the original supercar concept.

Perhaps for this reason, the German brand decided it was time to improve the R8 V10 RWD and the result was the R8 V10 RWD performance we are talking about today.

Although it remains faithful to the atmospheric V10 (no turbos here), with 5.2 l of capacity that equipped until now the R8 V10 RWD, the new R8 V10 RWD performance saw power rise to 570 hp and torque to 550 Nm, that is, an increase of 30 hp and 10 Nm compared to the values offered so far.

As for the transmission, the task of sending the 550 Nm of torque to the rear wheels is in charge of an automatic seven-speed S tronic transmission and we also have a mechanical locking differential.

In the field of performances, the Coupé achieves 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7s and reaches 329 km/h while the Spyder has 3.7s and 327 km/h of top speed.

Endowed with a specific suspension tuning, the R8 V10 RWD performance is capable of performing “controlled drifts”, simply by activating the “Sport Mode” which acts on the stability control, making it more “permissive”.

Weighing 1590 kg (the Coupé) and 1695 kg (the Spyder), the Audi R8 V10 performance RWD has a weight distribution of 40:60 and can be optionally equipped with a dynamic steering system, 20” wheels and 19” ceramic brakes (18” are standard).

Aesthetically, the R8 V10 RWD performance is distinguished by matte finishes on the front and rear grilles, on the splitter and also by the double exhaust outlet. Inside, the biggest highlight has to be given to the 12.3” instrument panel.

Still without prices for Portugal, the new R8 V10 performance RWD will be available in Germany from 149 thousand euros (Coupé) and 162,000 euros (Spyder).
