After a few weeks ago we made you aware of some details of the new M3 and M4, today we bring you news about the competition version, the BMW M4 GT3.

Destined to replace the (huge) M6 GT3, the new M4 GT3 is getting closer and closer to the tracks, having the first unit rolled off the production line last Saturday with test driver Augusto Farfus at the helm.

Developed in parallel with the road BMW M4, the M4 GT3 is now set to begin an extensive test plan that starts next week in France, in the Miramas region.

Once these tests are passed, the BMW M4 GT3 should debut in competition as early as 2021. The objective is to test it in a racing environment and then, in 2022, fully assume the task of replacing the M6 ​​GT3 on the tracks.

A long process of development

The development of the M4 GT3 started in early 2019, with the first computer simulations of the Bavarian brand. Already the engine — which BMW claims to have more than 500 hp — began testing in Munich in February this year.

As for the wind tunnel tests, these started in the middle of the year with a full-scale model while the first chassis test took place in early 2020.

For now, both the aesthetics and the technical data of the new BMW M4 GT3 remain the “secret of the Gods”. Even so. the first images released confirm that the huge front grille and rear LED headlights of the production version will be used in the competition model.

As for the other shapes, you can expect a wider body, a huge rear wing, a diffuser and other aerodynamic details.
