Suzuki Jimny. Five doors and new turbo engine? It seems so

Long-awaited, it even looks like the longest (and five-door) variant of the Suzuki Jimny is going to be a reality, with its unveiling supposedly scheduled for 2022.

According to our colleagues at Autocar India, originally the five-door Jimny was even to be unveiled in October this year at the Tokyo Motor Show, however, the cancellation of that event led Suzuki to postpone its presentation.

According to that publication, the new five-door Jimny will measure 3850 mm in length (the three-door measures 3550 mm), 1645 mm in width and 1730 mm in height, featuring a wheelbase of 2550 mm, plus 300 mm than the short version.

For now, it looks like a five-door Jimny is going to be a reality.

In addition to this five-door Jimny, the Japanese brand will also be preparing a renovation of the three-door Jimny to be presented simultaneously.

And the engines?

As you well know, under the hood of the Jimny lives just a 1.5 l atmospheric four-cylinder petrol engine with 102 hp and 130 Nm, which has been a “headache” for Suzuki's CO2 emissions bills in Europe, taking up to the suspension of the commercialization of the passenger version, being sold only, nowadays, as commercial. However, that could be about to change.

In addition to the five-door variant, Suzuki is allegedly preparing to offer its small jeep a new turbo engine combined with mild-hybrid technology.

If confirmed, this engine could be the "key" for the return of passenger Jimny to Europe, since the turbo engine in conjunction with mild-hybrid technology would allow a reduction in emissions.

As for the engine that can be used, despite nothing being confirmed, the K14D with 1.4 l, 129 hp and 235 Nm seems to be the best candidate, being even “used” to being associated with all-wheel drive systems as happens in the Vitara.
