Electrification at Mazda doesn't forget about combustion engines

Just note that in 2030, the year in which several manufacturers have already announced the end of models with internal combustion engines, the Mazda announces that only a quarter of its products will be fully electric, yet electrification, in one form or another, will reach all its models.

To achieve this goal, which is part of a broader strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, Mazda will launch between 2022 and 2025 a new range of models on a new basis, the SKYACTIV Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture.

From this new platform, five hybrid models, five plug-in hybrid models and three 100% electric models will be born — we'll know which they will be in the next few occasions.

A second platform, dedicated only and only to electric vehicles, is being developed: the SKYACTIV EV Scalable Architecture. Several models will be born from it, of different sizes and types, with the first one arriving in 2025 and others to be launched until 2030.

Electrics are not the only way to carbon neutrality

Mazda is known for its unorthodox approach to more efficient and sustainable powertrain solutions, and the same can be said for the path it intends to take until the end of this decade.

With the new SKYACTIV Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture, the Hiroshima builder is also reaffirming its role in the evolution of the internal combustion engine, in addition to continuous electrification.

Here we can see the new Diesel inline six-cylinder block, which will be paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system.

Just recently we saw the e-Skyactiv X , the new evolution of the SPCCI engine, will reach the market, present in the Mazda3 and CX-30, but will be accompanied, from 2022, by new blocks of six cylinders in line, with gasoline and… Diesel.

Mazda doesn't stop with engines. It also bets on renewable fuels, investing in different projects and partnerships, for example, in Europe, where it joined in February the eFuel Alliance, the first car manufacturer to do so.

In Japan the focus is on promoting and adopting biofuels based on the growth of microalgae, being involved in several research projects and studies, in an ongoing collaboration between industry, training chains and government.

Mazda Co-Pilot Concept

Mazda took this opportunity to also announce the introduction of the Mazda Co-Pilot 1.0 in 2022, its interpretation of the “human-centered” autonomous driving system that expands the range of advanced driver assistance technologies (Mazda i-Activsense ).

Mazda Co-Pilot will gradually allow you to constantly monitor the driver's physical condition and condition. In Mazda's words, “if a sudden change in the driver's physical condition is detected, the system switches to autonomous driving, directing the vehicle to a safe location, immobilizing it and making an emergency call.”
