Volvo Recharge already represents more than 50% of Volvo sales in Portugal

Anonim

53% was the share achieved by the models Volvo Recharge (electrical and plug-in hybrids) in the national market in the total sales of the Swedish brand in Portugal in the first quarter of 2021. A significant increase over the same period in 2020, where this share had been 32% (down 21 percentage points) ).

Bearing in mind that Volvo is only now launching its first 100% electric model in Portugal, the XC40 Recharge, this means that this milestone has been achieved, essentially, with the growing offer of plug-in hybrid models from the Swedish brand.

Thus, in the first quarter of 2021, the best-selling Volvo Recharge in Portugal were the plug-in hybrid variants of the XC40, V60 and XC60.

The weight of sales of these electrified models in Portugal in relation to the rest of the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa) should also be highlighted:

Volvo Recharge Sales Q1 2021
Year Portugal EMEA
2021 53% 39%
2020 32% 21%
2019 16% 11%

The Portuguese average is significantly higher than that of the EMEA region not only this year, but also in the last two years. Numbers that make the commercial director of Volvo Car Portugal, Domingos Silva, excited:

“These numbers are illustrative of the potential of the national market. We know that Portugal is a market prone to electrification and 2021 is a very special year for Volvo in the country as we are launching our first 100% electric car.

The fact that sales of our electrified units already represent more than half of the total units means that we are on the right path. By 2025 we aim to have at least 50% of our volume based on 100% electric vehicles and the remaining 50% on hybrid vehicles.”

Domingos Silva, commercial director +Volvo Car Portugal

It is Volvo Cars' ambition to sell one million electrified vehicles around the world by 2025. Recently the Swedish brand announced its goal of, in 2030, all vehicles in its range to be 100% electric, progressively abandoning the internal combustion engine, including its hybridized variants.
