This Hilux is on sale for almost 40 thousand euros. Is it justified?

Celebrated on the big screen in the “Back to the Future” saga and on the small screen thanks to the famous Top Gear, the Toyota Hilux is an example of robustness and reliability, something that was proven after all the “evil” it was subjected to on the British television programme.

Now, bearing in mind this reputation of being an “eternal van”, it is no wonder that the appearance of a copy for sale in an immaculate state managed to capture attention.

Born in 1986, the Toyota Hilux (or Pickup Xtra Cab as it was known in the US where it is for sale) has undergone a complete facelift, looking just off the assembly line despite having 159 299 miles (256 366 km) on the odometer.

Typically 80's

On the outside the look is very 80’s. From the typical beige color of that decade of the 20th century, to the BFGoodrich mixed tires mounted on chrome rims, passing through the auxiliary lights and the chrome roll bar, this Hilux does not hide the decade in which it was born.

Once inside, restoration has ensured that it is in an immaculate state. The beige that marks the exterior extends to the dashboard, seats and doors and simplicity is the watchword on board a pick-up truck whose only concession to modernity seems to be the radio with MP3 player.

Under the hood there is a gasoline engine (don't forget that this variant was destined for the USA where Diesels don't have many fans). With four cylinders and 2.4 l, this engine goes by the name 22R-E, has an injection system (there are no carburetors here) and is associated with an automatic gearbox.

Fully restored, it remains to be seen if this engine received a few more horsepower. If you have not done so, you should have 105 hp and 185 Nm.

Available on the Hyman website, this immaculate Toyota Hilux costs $47,500 (€38,834). Do you think this is a high value? Or is it appropriate considering that the van is supposed to “last forever”? Leave us your opinion in the comments.
