Ford Transit Supervan 3: for rushing grocers (PART 3)

Anonim

After part 1 and part 2, we introduce the Ford Transit SuperVan 3, a van that would easily put a smile on any dealer's face.

There are two types of vehicles that make us roll our eyes in agony: family minivans and vans. Minivans because they make any remnants of hope of having a 400 hp Italian super sports car disappear; the vans because they are the most practical vehicle ever, in a bad sense. The space is dedicated to itself, not giving rise to large engines, seats with good lateral support, or any other type of equipment that makes us feel that the objective is to drive. None of that, the purpose is to transport things.

With these facts in mind, some of the automakers had some sort of need to produce one, and only one, spicier unit of such assaults on automobile luxury. Renault, for example, showed the world its madness when in 1995 it presented an Espace prototype, equipped with a Formula 1 mid-engine. Ford also had some blessed daydreams. It all started when they put the engine of a GT40 in the Transit MK1. The pinnacle came when they put a Cosworth HB Formula 1 engine into the Transit MK3.

It must be confessed that, in reality, the only thing that was left of the Ford Transit was the image, and in this Ford Transit Supervan 3 the chassis was the same as the one used in the Ford C100, a 1981 competition car, and the bodywork was similar to 7:8 scale of the original. The 3.5l Cosworth HB V8 engine cuts the rpm at 13800 rpm and develops something like 650 hp, which combined with the 890 kg of the van, were more than enough for any express delivery to your home.
