Porsche gives a second life to this 962 C from 1987

The Porsche Heritage and Museum department has just surprised us with a restoration that will certainly leave no one indifferent. We're talking about a Group C-era Le Mans prototype, a 1987 Porsche 962 C decorated in Shell colors, which has now been returned to its original state.

And to make that possible, this Porsche 962 C returned to the place where it was “born”, the center of the Porsche of Weissach. It was there that for about a year and a half this iconic model came back to “life”.

This required collaboration between the various departments of the Stuttgart brand and even had to manufacture many pieces that no longer existed. It was a long and painstaking work, but the end result justifies it all, don't you think?

After the restoration was completed, this Porsche 962 C met again with those responsible for its creation and its track record in the competition: Rob Powell, the designer responsible for the yellow and red paintwork; engineer Norbert Stinger and pilot Hans Joachim Stuck.

“Stucki immediately liked the design on my first sketch,” says Rob Powell. “And by the way, I still think the combination of yellow and red looks modern,” he snapped.

Remember that it was in the hands of Hans Joachim Stuck that this Porsche 962 C won the ADAC Würth Supercup in 1987. In the following years it ended up being mostly used for tests by the Porsche aerodynamics department in Weissach.

“If I lift my sleeves, they'll see that I have goosebumps”, said the former driver, after this reunion after 35 years: “This car means a lot to me because it was kind of my dear, you know, because I was the his only driver,” he added.

And the surprise for Stuck didn't end there, as the former driver can still drive “his” 962 C once again: “A day like this will certainly never be forgotten. To be lucky enough to race this car and then come back here 35 years later and be able to drive it and have this experience, it's just brilliant,” he said.

Now, back to its original state, this 962 C is getting ready to be used at various Porsche exhibition events. Its first public appearance took place at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, but other performances of this iconic model from the Group C era are already planned.
