They look like toys. These are Daihatsu's five prototypes for the Tokyo Auto Salon

The Covid-19 pandemic may even have forced the 2021 edition of the Tokyo Auto Salon to be exclusively digital, however, this did not make Daihatsu decide to let the famous Japanese event “go unnoticed”.

Entitled “Daihatsu Village Colorful Carnival”, the set of five prototypes that Daihatsu created for the Tokyo Auto Salon 2021 reminds us of the cars we used to play with as children (and that fueled our dreams at Christmas).

From two prototypes that relinquish the roof to a mini-jeep that looks more like a Tomica remote control car, one thing is certain: Daihatsu designers don't seem to lack imagination.

Roof? no need

As we told you, two of Daihatsu's prototypes for the 2021 edition of the Tokyo Auto Salon completely forgo the roof (and the windshield). The most conventional, and the one that we would least admire if it were produced, goes by the name of Daihatsu Copen Spyder View.

In the end, this is nothing more than an even more radical version of the small roadster from the Japanese brand. In addition to having lost the windshield and the roof, it also has special wheels, and most likely shares the mechanics with the Copen GR Sport, which is the same as saying it uses a three-cylinder with 660 cm3 and 63 hp and is equipped with a specific suspension.

On the other hand, presenting itself as the most peculiar of these prototypes, we have the Daihatsu Hijet Truck Sportza See . Based on the small Hijet pick-up, the Hijet Truck Sportza Ver forgoes the roof, becoming a kind of commercial roadster. Completing the more radical look are a more aggressive front, sport seats, red alloy wheels and even side exhausts! As for mechanics, we don't know if there is any news.

And more?

Competing in “the spotlight” with the Hijet Truck Sportza Ver is the Taft Crossfield View . With a more adventurous look, thanks to its all-terrain tires, cut-out bumpers, auxiliary lights and winch, this mini-jeep looks ready to go to the end of the world and doesn't hide the similarities with the remote control cars from brands like Tomica .

More conventional but no less interesting, the Daihatsu Hijet Camper See shows that you don't need giant vans for camping. Also based on the Daihatsu Hijet, this one adopts a friendlier and less aggressive/sporty look.

Finally, the Daihatsu Thor Premium See with D-Sport components it is perhaps the model that has remained most faithful to the traditional tuning philosophy. As a result, it received a lowered suspension, larger wheels, a new bumper and a two-tone paint job.
