Meet the Mercedes AMG Vision Gran Turismo Racing Series. A lighter, more powerful version of the much-praised concept featured in the Gran Turismo 6 video game.
The Vision Gran Turismo project has been the main responsible for the strong investment of some manufacturers, such as Mercedes and Toyota in the virtual “world”, namely in the Gran Turismo 6 simulator. After Mercedes and AMG presented what was the The first of several concepts related to this project, the German manufacturer once again asserts itself as the main “star” of the simulator by presenting the Mercedes AMG Vision GT Racing Series.
As the long(!) name implies, this is a version specially focused on track performance. In order to guarantee better performance levels than the normal version. Thus, the Mercedes AMG Vision GT Racing Series features several improvements, from the application of a fixed rear wing – in order to provide greater amounts of downforce on high-speed circuits, to the application of conventional side mirrors and the Gran Turismo logo in the rear light, all this in favor of an even more competitive look.
However, the improvements are not just about aerodynamics and the exterior look. The Mercedes AMG Vision Gran Turismo Racing Series has the same 5.5 Twin-Turbo V8 as the AMG Vision GT with an optimized power from 577hp to 591hp. The seven-speed dual-clutch transmission has also been improved to withstand the “punishments” imposed by increased power. The overall weight is reduced from 1385 kg to 1300 kg, as well as the ground clearance, which is also reduced in order to provide better grip values on the track.
