Cold Start. Porsche recreates more than 60 years of historical photography

In 1960, Austrian skier Egon Zimmermann jumped over a Porsche 356 B and was the protagonist of one of the most emblematic photographs in the history of the Stuttgart brand.

Now, more than 60 years later, Porsche has recreated this image using the two-time Olympic ski champion, the Norwegian Aksel Lund Svindal, and the Porsche Taycan, the first 100% electric model from the German manufacturer.

For the jump, Porsche invited Egon's younger brother and his nephew, who were able to witness firsthand the result, which is as impressive now as in 1960.

Porsche Jump 1960-2021

The Aksel Lund Svindal and Porsche Taycan represent the same values as those in Egon Zimmermann's 1960 jump over the 356: athleticism, courage and zest for life – and, of course, with the most innovative sports car of his time.

Lutz Meschke, member of the Management Board of Porsche AG

Svindal, on the other hand, was very proud of the achievement: “Historical photography will always be celebrated and is part of Porsche's DNA. And our job is to respect the past, embrace the present and help shape the future,” he said.

“Porsche's leap is a powerful symbol of the determination with which we at Porsche pursue our dreams,” concluded Lutz Meschke.
