Based on Volvo's new SPA platform (Scalable Product Architecture) — used in the 90 Series and New XC60 models — the new Volvo V60 has just been revealed worldwide through Facebook.
It is the second model in the Series 60 family — the first was the SUV XC60 — and will be the brand's biggest highlight at the Geneva Motor Show. Let's get to know it in 5 essential points:
1. Exterior of Volvo V60
Purity and functionality. It is with these two adjectives that the Swedish brand defines the lines of the new Volvo V60.
New Volvo V60 Outdoor
Robin Page, Senior Vice President, Design Volvo Cars"The V60 plays a pivotal role for Volvo. It's refined, has a great design while offering unmatched functionality and versatility."
The subtly sculpted side face emphasizes the van's athletic character, with the roof spolier reinforcing its dynamic nature. Volvo's new identity is strongly emphasized in the new front grille and in the front and rear lights.
2. Interior
Inside, in addition to the natural concerns in terms of comfort and ergonomics, the brand's designers worked to offer a bright, clean and organized cabin.
The choice of materials also looks correct, highlighting the diamond pattern on the command buttons in the center panel.
The front seats have been molded according to the Swedish brand's latest ergonomics studies and offer a wide range of adjustments. At the rear, generous legroom, aided by the presence of automatic climate control, ensures that all occupants travel in comfort.
New Volvo V60 Indoor
The trunk, with a capacity of 529 liters, a reference in the segment, has no intrusion from the rear suspension, being quite wide resulting in a space capable of easily accommodating bulky and irregular objects.
The electric tailgate allows you to open or close it using a button on the car's instrument panel or on the tailgate itself.
3. Security
The new Volvo V60 shares its safety technology with the brand's latest models and comes equipped with an advanced pack, combining active and passive safety systems. Among them a world premiere: the Oncoming Mitigation with braking.
This innovation is able to detect vehicles that are driving against the V60, in the opposite direction. If a collision cannot be avoided, this system automatically locks the V60 and prepares the front seat belts to help reduce the effect of a collision.
Safety Cage
Combining various qualities of steel and aluminum, the famous safety cage (present in Volvo since 1947) will guarantee the necessary structural rigidity in the event of an accident.
These systems are joined by the already known Lane Keeping Aid (softly redirects the car to its trajectory), Run-off road Mitigation (system capable of detecting an involuntary departure from the road and putting the car back on the road), BLIS (blind spot warning), Driver Alert Control (detention of fatigue), and finally the Pilot Assist (which offers semi-autonomous driving up to 130 km/h).
4. Driving/chassis
Volvo wants to raise the dynamic quality of the new Volvo V60, and therefore proceeded to tune the SPA platform specifically for this model.
At the front, the sports suspension with double wishbone geometry provides the best possible contact between the tire surface and the road. At the rear, the all-axle rear suspension features a sophisticated transverse leaf spring made from lightweight composite materials and specifically designed to provide a sporty and dynamic ride without compromising on rolling comfort.
Engines
At the beginning of its production, the new V60 will be available in D3 (150hp) and D4 (190hp) diesel and T5 (250hp) and T6 (320hp) gasoline engines.
There is still no official sales date, but the new Volvo V60 should reach the domestic market before the end of the year.
